Simon's Way

The Bursledon Players celebrate their 75th anniversary with a brand new home-grown comedy called Simon’s Way.

It begins in Bursledon Village Hall in 2026, where members of the group have gathered to brainstorm ideas for their 75th anniversary production. Sounds familiar? It’s all a little too close for comfort!

When Simon proposes a play-within-a-play about the Bursledon Regatta in the style of a certain nautical TV drama filmed on the River Hamble, we’re whisked back to 1986. Here we encounter fierce regatta rivalries, a chaotic baking competition, bribery, cheating and plenty of 80s over-the-top glamour.

At the heart of the drama is a millionaire new to the village who wants to cut down three ancient oak trees that are blocking her view of the river. But she doesn’t reckon on the local planning officer whose honour stands between her and her destiny!

Written with plenty of affection for village life, this is an evening of sharp one-liners, big characters and gentle chaos, played by a cast who clearly enjoy every minute.

Conceived by Tim Tayler, progressed by Ned Neve and his AI friends, and further development and script by Sean Tyler.
