Gilly's Gem and Not Quite As Planned

Bursledon Village Hall - Bursledon Village Hall, Long Lane, Southampton, SO31 8BZ

The Bursledon Players present, an amateur production of, Gilly's Gem by Sandy Taylor and Not Quite As Planned by Troy Banyan.

Gilly's Gem

Millie has been Gilly's live-in cleaner for years and considers herself absolutely indispensable — and she's probably right. She knows where everything is, she can rustle up a meal from almost nothing, and she keeps a very close eye on the gin. Her best friend Peggy, cleaner to the lady downstairs, is always on hand for moral support and the occasional tipple when the bosses are away.

When Gilly returns early from holiday with a new man in tow — Toby, a charming antiques dealer who she met on the plane and has already rather fallen for — Millie is immediately suspicious. And with good reason. She recognises him straight away as Frank Butler, who runs a junk stall down Petticoat Lane market. He's after Gilly's money, and Millie is not about to let that happen.

With the help of Peggy, a goldfish bowl, and a rather unconvincing Indian spirit guide called Little Yellowfoot, Millie sets about saving her beloved, rather naïve boss — without breaking her heart in the process.

A warm, funny and thoroughly feel-good comedy.

Not Quite As Planned

Esme is a free-spirited psychotherapist who has invited her new boyfriend Charles round for a quiet evening — with her daughter Steph along as a carefully planned third wheel to help draw him out of his shell. Charles is formal, buttoned-up, and not great at expressing his feelings, and Esme is convinced there's more to him than meets the eye.

What could possibly go wrong?

Within minutes, Steph has arrived with a baby in tow and a stomach bug brewing, Don — Esme's cheating ex-husband — has turned up uninvited, and Esme has been called out to a client in crisis, leaving Charles and Steph alone together in increasingly awkward silence. That's before Flo, a client with absolutely no filter whatsoever, lets herself in. And before Don's young ex-girlfriend Molly arrives in the rain, closely followed by her grandmother brandishing a rolling pin.

On a wet and chaotic evening where nothing goes remotely as planned, it falls to the most unlikely person in the room to hold everything together.

A brilliantly funny ensemble comedy about the glorious mess of modern relationships.
